Economic ties formed a central part of the discussions. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah examined cooperation in trade, investment and development under the UAE-Jordan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. The pact gives both countries a wider framework for commercial and investment links. The leaders also reviewed broader areas of cooperation that support their national development priorities. The UAE and Jordan maintain close political ties and hold regular consultations on economic and regional matters.

Jordan’s delegation included Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan. Senior UAE officials also joined the meeting in Abu Dhabi. They included Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also attended. The high-level participation brought together officials responsible for political, economic and foreign policy issues in both countries.

    Trade agreement anchors economic cooperation

The UAE and Jordan signed their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on October 6, 2024. It entered into force on May 15, 2025. The deal became the UAE’s first comprehensive economic partnership agreement with an Arab country. It covers more than 98% of tariff lines and sets rules across goods and services. The agreement also addresses investment, customs procedures, digital trade and cooperation involving small and medium-sized businesses.

The trade framework grants preferential treatment to qualifying goods that meet agreed rules of origin and technical requirements. More than 99.5% of the value of UAE goods exported to Jordan falls within its liberalization coverage. The agreement also provides mechanisms to support customs cooperation and investment activity. It establishes committees and official contact points to oversee implementation. Both governments have presented the pact as a key framework for expanding bilateral economic ties.

Regional developments feature in leaders’ talks

Regional issues also featured prominently during the Abu Dhabi meeting. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah exchanged views on developments affecting the Middle East. They stressed the importance of continued UAE-Jordan coordination on matters linked to security and stability. The two leaders also reiterated support for efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace across the region. Their talks reflected the regular political consultation maintained between Abu Dhabi and Amman on major regional developments.

King Abdullah concluded his UAE visit after the talks and departed Abu Dhabi later on Sunday. Sheikh Mohamed attended the departure alongside senior UAE officials. The meeting combined bilateral economic priorities with discussions on regional affairs and security. It also reinforced the role of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in UAE-Jordan relations. Both sides used the visit to review existing cooperation and maintain direct coordination between their leaders and senior officials.
