EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – The UAE and Egypt have put a five-year wheat supply agreement into effect, valued at up to US$500 million. Al Dahra Agriculture Trading will supply imported wheat to Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities under the arrangement. The purchases will use financing provided through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. The agreement gives effect to a framework established in 2023 and sets terms for wheat transactions between Al Dahra and GASC over the five-year period.

The parties signed the agreement on Aug. 26, 2026, at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein. Egyptian Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk attended the signing in his role as GASC chairman. Al Dahra co-founder and managing director Khadim Abdullah Al Darei also attended. Officials did not announce the wheat volume covered by the agreement. They also did not disclose delivery schedules, shipment origins, annual purchase targets or the pricing method that will apply to individual transactions.

The current arrangement builds on a financing program announced by the UAE and Egypt in August 2023. Under that framework, ADEX provided US$100 million in revolving financing for wheat and other essential commodity purchases. The facility was structured for annual renewal over five years, creating potential financing of up to US$500 million. Egypt’s finance and international cooperation ministries participated alongside GASC in the original framework. The latest agreement establishes how Al Dahra will supply wheat through that existing financing mechanism.

Five-year framework moves into wheat supply phase

ADEX operates as the export-financing arm of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and supports purchases linked to UAE exporters. Its 2023 agreement with Egyptian authorities covered wheat and other essential commodities supplied through Al Dahra. The revolving structure allowed the financing to renew each year during the five-year term. The new supply agreement does not create another US$500 million facility. Instead, it provides the commercial framework for GASC to purchase imported wheat from Al Dahra using financing already arranged through ADEX.

Al Dahra has maintained agricultural operations in Egypt since 2007, including farms in Toshka and East Oweinat. The company said in 2023 that it cultivated about 28,000 hectares in Egypt. It also reported supplying more than 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government during the preceding three years. At that time, Al Dahra said about 85% of production from its Egyptian farms entered the local market. The company currently operates an agricultural platform serving more than 40 markets worldwide.

Imported wheat purchases remain tied to ADEX financing

The agreement signed in El Alamein covers imported wheat supplied to GASC, while Al Dahra also produces crops inside Egypt. In 2023, the company described itself as the country’s largest private-sector producer of wheat and corn. The new pact therefore concerns a separate import channel supported by UAE export financing. GASC remains the Egyptian government body responsible for procurement under the arrangement. Neither GASC nor Al Dahra has published a total tonnage figure for wheat deliveries covered by the five-year agreement.

The value of the program remains capped at up to US$500 million across five years under the structure established in 2023. Al Dahra and GASC have not released an annual shipment calendar or identified the countries supplying the imported wheat. They have also not disclosed the formula that will determine prices for individual purchases. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the confirmed agreement links Al Dahra’s wheat supplies to GASC with the existing ADEX financing program and formalizes the operational phase of the five-year arrangement.
