The Al Ain Zoo has celebrated the arrival of a newborn white rhinoceros, an event that carries significant weight given the species’ classification as nearly threatened on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. This birth represents an important contribution to the efforts to preserve the species and ensure its survival in the wild.

Significant step in species conservation: Rhinoceros birth at Al Ain Zoo

Thriving in its habitat at the Zoo, the newborn rhinoceros is receiving top-notch care from a dedicated team of zoo professionals. The team, well-versed in the highest standards of veterinary medicine, nutrition, and behavioral care, ensures that the young rhino’s environment aligns with international best practices. Such meticulous care promotes the healthy growth and development of the baby rhinoceros, contributing to the conservation of its species.

Currently, the Al Ain Zoo is home to a group of 11 rhinoceroses, consisting of five males and six females. The zoo staff, comprising expert veterinarians and carers, provide comprehensive care for these majestic creatures. This focused care has not only contributed to the well-being of the rhinos but has also significantly enhanced their natural reproduction rates. As a result, the number of rhinos at the Zoo has witnessed a substantial increase over the years.

Committed to both conservation and education, the Al Ain Zoo provides a wide range of enlightening and entertaining experiences for its visitors. Among these are two distinct rhino exhibits: the African Exhibition and the Al Ain Safari. These exhibits offer visitors a chance to observe the rhinos in an environment that closely mimics their natural habitats. Additionally, they serve as a home to a diverse array of other African safari animals, creating a rich tapestry of wildlife for guests to enjoy.
