Trade agreement anchors economic cooperation
The UAE and Jordan signed their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on October 6, 2024. It entered into force on May 15, 2025. The deal became the UAE’s first comprehensive economic partnership agreement with an Arab country. It covers more than 98% of tariff lines and sets rules across goods and services. The agreement also addresses investment, customs procedures, digital trade and cooperation involving small and medium-sized businesses.
The trade framework grants preferential treatment to qualifying goods that meet agreed rules of origin and technical requirements. More than 99.5% of the value of UAE goods exported to Jordan falls within its liberalization coverage. The agreement also provides mechanisms to support customs cooperation and investment activity. It establishes committees and official contact points to oversee implementation. Both governments have presented the pact as a key framework for expanding bilateral economic ties.
Regional developments feature in leaders’ talks
Regional issues also featured prominently during the Abu Dhabi meeting. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah exchanged views on developments affecting the Middle East. They stressed the importance of continued UAE-Jordan coordination on matters linked to security and stability. King Abdullah concluded his UAE visit after the talks and departed Abu Dhabi later on Sunday. Sheikh Mohamed attended the departure alongside senior UAE officials.
